Need to learn how to get advertising for your website?  You’ve got the site up and running, but it is not performing as well as you would like.  I am going to share some information about how to go about advertising that site so that you can actually generate money from it.

10 Best ways to advertise your website online:

1)      The best and most recommended way to advertise your website online is to use SEO techniques to get your website to rank well.  This is part of the service that I provide for my clients.  SEO is so important that I have dedicated a whole category and many pages to explaining it better.

Fewer forms of advertising your website will have a better return on investment than proper search engine optimization efforts.

2)      Publish articles about your industry.   Think about all of the articles you have read about your industry.  Aren’t all of those authors perceived as experts in that industry?  Of course they are.  It doesn’t matter whether or not you are the single most knowledgeable person in your industry.  What matters is that you are sharing what knowledge you do have with people who are interested in it.  That makes you an expert to them.

There are places online where you can submit your articles for publication.  These are called article directories.  These articles include an author box.  Inside that author box, you get to put a few sentences about your business.  That generates publicity for your website, your products and your business.

There are two main ways it generates publicity.  First, there are going to be some people who are using Google and the other search engines to find information about the topic you wrote about.  Some of them might find your article because it is freely available for people to find.  If someone reads it and finds it helpful, there is a good chance that they will follow the link in the resource box back to your site to see what else you have to say or maybe to make a purchase.

Secondly, the search engines also read your article.  They see those links too.  If you are creating the article properly, it will help tell the search engines that your website belongs to an expert about your subject.  The more of these types of links they find the better.  These links help push your website higher up in the search results when people search for your type of product or service.

3)      Another great way to advertise your business is to get bloggers talking about your business.  There are various ways you can accomplish this.

The first way is to hire a blogger to write for you.  This blogger may use one of his or her own blogs to talk about your business and link back to it.  They may also suggest that you put a blog on your own website where they can help you build a more rounded website.  This naturally attracts more organic search volume because of the additional content generated for your website by the blogger.

4)      You can get your business listed in a number of directories.  You want to have it listed in certain directories that are well liked by the search engines.  These directories cost a substantial amount to get listed in, but they are worth it.

You could also get listed in a number of free directories. These directories are all over the internet.  You should try to find some of the better ones that are more relevant to your particular industry.

5)      You could spend time visiting other blogs that are in your industry and commenting on them.  It is a very good idea to connect with other people in your industry who have an online presence.  You build relationships this way that can be mutually beneficial.  Plus when you leave comments on other people’s blogs, you usually get a link back to your website.  Then if someone reads your comment and thinks it is intelligent, they might pay you a visit.

Just like with the articles I mentioned above, those comment links will also be seen by the search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.  This also helps to reaffirm your position as an expert in the industry.

6)      Exchanging Links – There might be some other websites online that would be a good idea for you to exchange website links with.  In most cases you are far better off seeing if you can get them to link to you without having to link back.

7)      PPC Campaigns – Another common way for businesses to advertise their website is to purchase pay per click advertising.  Advertising can be bought through a number of different channels.  With pay per click advertising, you generate your own ads to show to people.  In the case of Google, you get to bid on how much you are willing to pay to have someone click on your ads.  You also get to set an advertising budget.  This allows you to expose your business to new customers who otherwise may not find you.      

8)      Banner advertising – You can pay websites that are in your customers’ geographical area to place banners on their websites that advertise yours.  This method was very common a decade ago.  Now, it is reserved more for mass media advertising.  It is great if you sell something that everyone uses.  Otherwise it is less effective.

9)      Linkbaiting – Link baiting means to provide some kind of free information, tool or useful service on your website that people will want to tell each other about.  This is a very popular way to generate buzz from all over the internet and is most appropriate for certain types of businesses.

10)   Create and publish videos about your industry.  Maybe you could publish a free training video that would generate a lot of long term publicity for your business.  As you are probably already aware of, video is getting increasingly more popular all the time.  Video sites like YouTube get millions of visitors.
